Introduction

Talend is THE open source data integration solution and rivals the market's leading proprietary solutions.  It's powerful and open technology tools allow users to respond efficiently to a wide range of needs including:  supplying datawarehouses, synchronizing databases, accessing Web services and transforming various file formats (XML, VSAM, delimeated, positional, etc.)

Using actual case studies throughout the course, this three-day training will allow students to obtain "Foundation" status for Talend Open Studio. 

 

Course objectives:

Pre-requisites:

  1. None

 1. Presentation:

  1. ETL:  An overview of proprietary and Open Source tools
  2. Operational and business intelligence integration
  3. Talend Open Studio

 

 2. Modeling & documentation:

  1. Use the Business Modeler
  2. Documentation management and version management
  3. Organize the model links/Implementation: assignment

 

 3. Job execution: files and databases:

  1. Generate data sets with tGenRow
  2. Understand diagrams and metadata
  3. Manage access to files (XML, positional, delineated, etc.)
  4. Manage database access (native, ODBC access, etc.)
  5. Use Mapper and transform the data
  6. Look up simple, multiple and complex references
  7. Manage shared code

 

 4. Component concatenation:

  1. Use Before/After/First/Last triggers
  2. Use conditional links
  3. Use iteratives
  4. Manage errors:  Trigger IfOK, IfError

 5. Roll out Talend Open Studio:

  1. Model a component using tPerlFlex
  2. Create a simple component

 

 6. Debugging, deployment and optimization:

  1. Debug quickly with tLogRow
  2. Use the statistical mode
  3. Execute step by step: trace mode
  4. Use the internal debugger
  5. Manage the context of executions
  6. Optimize jobs (routines and snippets)

 

 7. Participating in the Talend community:

  1. Use the community tools (Forum, BugTracker)
  2. Exchange with community members
